About

Northeast Ohio: a healthcare powerhouse

Home to multiple major hospital systems, healthcare providers and institutions of higher education, NEO nurses are on the front lines of healthcare. In 2019, the World Health Organization declared 2020 to be the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. The year celebrates the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and also sees the release of the WHO's first-ever State of the World's Nursing Report.

A group of NEO universities and colleges, health care providers, hospital systems and nursing professional organizations heeded the call to celebrate the incredible work of nurses and to promote the nursing profession. The Northeast Ohio Year of the Nurse 2020 highlights the innovative and inspiring stories of nurses in our region, and aims to promote the rewarding field of nursing.

Each day (366 since 2020 is a Leap Year), this website will feature a new nursing story on this website from a nurse based in our region. Our stories launch on January 1, 2020, and continue through December 31, 2020. Additionally, each month the participating organizations are scheduling programming that enriches and advances the conversation about the profession of nursing. Events will be added to our website as they are scheduled.

Dean Carol Musil of the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University serves as grand chair of the Northeast Ohio Year of the Nurse 2020 and welcomes all participating organizations, nurses and friends of nurses to celebrate nursing excellence throughout this year and beyond.
