YON 2020 Day 340: Shannon Pignatiello, MSN, RN, CCRN, CPN

The Education Manager of the Transformational Healthcare Readiness through Innovative

Vocational Education (THRIVE) Program at the Cleveland Clinic, Shannon Pignatiello, MSN, RN, CCRN, CPN, shares her own nursing journey and advice for anyone thinking about a nursing career.

The career path of a nurse is rarely ever the same, which I find to be so wonderful. There is immense room for growth and the ability to find that one niche about which you are passionate. My career path has definitely followed this pattern. Caring for children and their families has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. This led me to specializing in pediatrics and critical care; I was a staff nurse in the PICU at Children’s Hospitals in Detroit, Hartford and Cleveland. Along with being a pediatric nurse, I am also passionate about educating and supporting staff and those in need. This led me to completing my MSN in Nursing Education and accepting opportunities in the Office of Nursing Education and Professional Development. I am currently in the role of Education Manager for the THRIVE program, which provides supportive measures to the PCNA population for the first year of employment at Cleveland Clinic.

My biggest piece of advice to offer someone who is interested in nursing is--go for it! Nursing is such a great profession! It is full of different opportunities that will allow you to find your true passion and really make a positive impact in the community. There is no doubt that some days are difficult and draining, but the reward gained from helping others outweighs all of it. If you have a caring heart and truly want to help others during some of their most trying times, then you will no doubt be a great nurse. Put in the hard work, take that risk and join a truly rewarding profession. We welcome you!
